I was lucky enough to shoot an entire role of film while observing these two wild bears play a short but intense game of "king of the hill". The only way I could pull this off without countless hours in their presence, is the Vince Shute wildlife sanctuary in northern Minnesota. This unique preserve has to be the best place to see Black Bears in their natural environment anywhere. These bears are completely wild and come and go as they please. On another occasion (there) I witnessed a boar tree a sow with two cubs.
This piece utilizes thick textures and circular brushstrokes echoing movement in this "Dance of Dominance". |
