When I initially set out to do this piece the main focus was going to be on the horizon, specifically a blue horizon. As the painting evolved the creek started taking on a life of it's own. Although I didn't have a specific location in mind, I ended up with the feeling of Yellowstone's Lamar valley. For Yellowstone, Lamar valley is not an especially dramatic landscape, what is incredible, is the staggering amount of wildlife one can encounter. This depiction however is about a meandering little creek that just happens to capture western skies' reflection, creating the high contrast of the "Blue Ribbon". |
